Sister Jeanine (Marion) McDermott, OSF, died Monday, September 2, 2024 at the age of 96.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Clare House Chapel, Mount St. Francis Center at 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 6, 2024. Guests unable to attend may participate via livestream at: www.youtube.com/dubuquefranciscans. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Marion, daughter of the late Elizabeth (Nevins) and Daniel McDermott, was born October 21, 1927 in Epworth, IA. She was baptized at St. John’s Church, Placid, Iowa, and confirmed at St. Patrick’s Church, Epworth. On August 25, 1946, she entered the Sisters of St. Francis in Dubuque and was received with the name Sister Jeanine on August 12, 1947. Sister Jeanine made her final profession of vows on August 10, 1952.
Sister received her bachelor’s degree in business from Briar Cliff College, Sioux City, Iowa. She ministered in Iowa at Xavier Hospital and Alverno Apartments in Dubuque, Le Mars, and Briar Cliff College.
Sister is survived by her nieces, nephews, and her Franciscan sisters.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Mabel (LaVern) Roths, Eleanor McDermott, Honora Schmitt, Vivian (Ernie) Zalaznik, Luella (Donald) Krapfl, and Kathryn McDermott; brothers, Daniel (Elizabeth) McDermott and Ray (Lillian) McDermott.
