St. Christopher’s School in Midlothian, Illinois, which was founded by the Dubuque Franciscan Sisters, celebrated 100 years on Saturday, evening May 18. At the celebration, Sister Laurinda Hefel was honored for her retirement after almost 50 years of service to the school.
Before the celebration, students of St. Christopher School and Dubuque Franciscan Associates, held a prayer service and tree planting ceremony in honor of Sister Laurinda in thanksgiving for her years of service to the school and parish community.
“Celebrating 100 years is a privilege for everybody in the parish community and the community at large. We want to thank the Franciscans Sisters of Dubuque who kept their presence at the school for 100 years, especially with Sister Laurinda Hefel who just retired after almost 50 years of service,” said Rev. Robinson Ortiz, a priest at St. Augustine Parish about the celebration.
